How Do I Transfer the Local Model to Another Mac?

Most people should download Monologue's local model directly inside the app. But if you're setting up Monologue on a restricted or proxy-managed Mac, there is an advanced workaround: you can copy the local model files from another Mac where they have already been downloaded.

Before you start

  • Use this only if direct download is blocked on your Mac.

  • Local transcription currently requires an Apple silicon Mac.

  • For most users, the normal path is Settings > General > Local model > Download.

Where the local model files live

On a Mac where Monologue has already downloaded the local model, the files are stored in these folders:

  • ~/Library/Application Support/FluidAudio/Models/parakeet-tdt-0.6b-v3-coreml

  • ~/Library/Application Support/FluidAudio/Models/parakeet-ctc-110m-coreml

The simplest approach is to copy the entire ~/Library/Application Support/FluidAudio/Models/ folder to the same location on the destination Mac.

How to transfer the model

  1. On a Mac where the local model is already installed, open Finder.

  2. Press Shift-Command-G and go to ~/Library/Application Support/FluidAudio/.

  3. Copy the Models folder.

  4. On the destination Mac, place that folder in the same location: ~/Library/Application Support/FluidAudio/.

  5. Open Monologue.

  6. Go to Settings > General.

  7. Under Transcription source, select Local model.

You should not need to edit config files manually. If Monologue sees the model files on disk, it should use them.

What works locally and what still needs internet

  • Local transcription runs on your Mac.

  • Polished/context-aware formatting still uses Monologue's network-backed formatting pipeline.

  • Deep context only controls screen capture context. Turning it off does not make formatting local.

If the formatting step cannot reach the network, Monologue falls back to the raw transcript.

Troubleshooting

  • If Local model is unavailable, confirm that you're on an Apple silicon Mac.

  • If Monologue still shows the model as unavailable after copying the files, quit and reopen the app.

  • If you do not need the workaround anymore, you can go back to the default flow and use Settings > General > Local model > Download.
