Why Monologue says “Copied” or “App changed” instead of pasting

What the copied fallback means, why it happens, and what to try first.

If Monologue copies text to your clipboard instead of pasting it directly into the app you were using, it usually means Monologue decided it was safer not to auto-paste in that moment.

First, update Monologue

We recently improved paste behavior, especially for browser-based editors. If you are seeing this in a browser, the first thing to do is update to the latest version of Monologue and try again.

What this message means

When Monologue cannot confidently paste directly into the active app, it falls back to copying the transcript to your clipboard so you can still paste it manually with Command-V.

Depending on your app version, you may see a simpler Copied message or an older message like App changed.

Common reasons this happens

  • You switched apps while dictating.

  • The target app changed focus before Monologue finished processing.

  • The editor you were using did not look like a safe text target at the moment Monologue tried to paste.

  • You are on an older version with stricter browser paste behavior.

If this happens in a browser or web editor

Start by updating to the latest version. We recently changed browser behavior to reduce copy-only fallbacks in web editors.

If it still happens after updating, press Command-V to paste manually, then send us the details so we can investigate.

What to send support

  • The website or editor where it happened, such as Replit.

  • Your Monologue app version.

  • Whether Monologue showed Copied, App changed, or another message.

  • Whether the issue happens every time or only sometimes.

  • A screen recording or screenshot if possible.

Temporary workaround

If Monologue copies instead of pasting, you can usually paste the transcript yourself immediately with Command-V.
